Climbing on unstable surface

6 years old CP patient with left hemiplegia

In order to challenge patient’s balance, he was asked to practice going up and down the stairs while stepping on an unstable surface.

1. With the support of both handrails, the patient manages to step on the sponge with his weak leg, but loses balance over his knee due to muscle weakness. Once he passes the sponge, he lets go of his left hand.

2. Patient needs to be reminded to use his left hand and move it with his body. When he steps on his left leg after passing the sponge, his feet rotate left, and he forgets his left hand behind. This leads the patient to descends without controlling his movement.

A special thanks to the "Ha'gan Ha'shikumi" and their amazing staff, for sharing their knowledge, thoughts and experience.
